The Bear Lake Utah "Sea Monster"
Bear Lake Utah is said by the legends of the local aboriginal Native American Indian to host a lake monster. Ages ago the First Nations told the European explorers of strange creatures that haunted Bear Lake, which is located in the desserts of Utah.
Apparently in the 1860’s one group of fervent explorers actually came across and had evidence and even direct visual contact with one of this serpent like creatures. The “Sea” or “Lake Creature”. The historical written evidence of the time stated that it was a large creature resembling an alligator. The “Creature”, resembling a very large, long alligator came ashore in full view of the group of explorers. One witness, Mr. Hugh McNeil stated that the alligator like large creature was approximately 75 feet in length and had a head which appeared similar to an equine horse.
Approximately 20 years later in 1883 another group of explorers encountered a similar style monster lying on the shore of the lake. Shortly after the “Lake Creature” hurled itself into the water leaving a great wake in its path.
The “Bear Lake Sea Monster “still seems to be alive and flourishing. As late as 2002 there were reliable reports of sixty foot long monster seen at a distance of only 200 yards.
